What is it required to apply for a License?
 
The Council is responsible for granting, modifying and ceasing open TV broadcasting licenses. Also, for matters related to transferring, leasing or granting   usage rights of such licenses.

Who can apply for a License?

Public or private corporations established in Chile and settled in the country.

For how long are the Licenses granted?
 
Since April 8, 1992, licenses have been granted for 25 years.  Before that, they were indefinite.

Procedure:

a. Individual sends letter to the National Television Council (CNTV) requesting public bid for TV broadcasting channel.

b. CNTV sends request for public bid to Undersecretary of Telecommunications (Subtel):

c. Subtel sends technical specifications requirements to CNTV

d. CNTV publishes three notices to bid for granting of TV broadcasting signal in the Official Gazette (Diario Oficial).

e. During the 30 days following date of the last notice published, bidders can submit their technical projects.

f. CNTV requests Subtel to technically assess the projects submitted.

g. Subtel sends approved technical assessment.

h. CNTV proceeds to award licenses based on data delivered by Subtel.  Awardee must publish a single notice of same date, both in the Official Gazette and in any newspaper domiciled in the capital of the region where the station will operate.

i. After 30 days CNTV requests from Subtel the final technical report.

j. CNTV sends final resolution to Government Accounting Inspector’s Office (Contraloría General de la República) for recording of grant.
