Legal Nature and Mission

The Consejo Nacional de Television is an autonomous and constitutional organism.

It was created and configured by the Constitution in its basic elements and its mission is to safeguard the proper functioning of television services. It is not under any kind of supervision from any other public department and has legal recognition and its own patrimony, which allows it to be financially independent, it also has its own responsibility regimen.

In its autonomous character, el Consejo does not depend on any governmental authority and it has relationship with the President of the Republic through the Ministerio Secretaria General de Gobierno.

The 1989 law 18.838, was modified by the 1992 law 19.131 and it states the composition, organization, and other attributions of the Consejo
